A love of food and travel has always gone hand-in-hand. I’ve never wanted to travel for a suntan or a bucket list activity or a selfie in front of a monument or an Instagram-famous cafe. For me, it’s about walking neighborhood streets and crossing the city until my feet ache and I’ve inadvertently but inevitably retraced my own steps. I like lining up at the corner bakery, pulling up at the bar somewhere unplanned for a bite, buying the ingredients for a big Sunday lunch at the farmers market before everything closes. I like driving absurdly far for a chance to try a maple creamee after hearing it’s the best one in Vermont. I like trying to experience a slice of everyday life wherever I am and get as close to what it’s like for the locals, trying it on, to see how it feels, and especially how it tastes.
During my journalism career, food was my muse. I wrote long-form features, editorials, and restaurant reviews for The Globe & Mail, The Toronto Star, OTTAWA Magazine, Chatelaine, Elle Canada, enRoute, and more.
